That drive and play, however, were about all that Freeman could do right against a very aggressive and hungry Blackshirt defense. It seemed as though the defense for Nebraska had been even more enthusiastic than usual after being awarded their Blackshirts earlier in the week.

They sacked Freeman four times and had eight tackles for loss in the game. Nebraska beat Kansas State On the other side of the ball, the Huskers were paced by a great day from senior quarterback Ganz. Last year against Kansas State, Ganz put up monster numbers — when he went for for yards and seven touchdowns — and he did his best this year to repeat. Ganz went for for yards, two touchdowns and the interception, but he also included 11 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

His yards passing gave him 3, yards through the air this season, as he joined Zac Taylor as the only quarterbacks in school history to throw for 3, yards in a single season. Ganz completed 16 of 25 passes to give him completions in , good for a new Nebraska record. Taylor held the previous record of in Ganz rushed for a game-high 95 yards on only 11 carries as NU finished with a season-high yards rushing.
